Ask Fab Gabby: Inexpensive Solo Vacation

by Fab Gabby

Q: Dear Fab Gabby,

I’m going to be in the states (from the Middle East) on vacation for 3 weeks beginning 18 Aug, and I NEED to take a mini vacation just for me, that is inexpensive but fun, at least 3-4 days and while I don’t want to go by myself that will probably be the case.  Do you have any suggestions?

A: Hi Tanya,

Great question! I take solo vacations all the time to give myself an opportunity to unwind and reflect. If it’s summer time, a beach is a MUST! So, I suggest that you look into going to Delray Beach, FL. Delray Beach is also known as the “village by the sea”. It’s in South Florida about 35 minutes north of Fort Lauderdale and an hour north of Miami . So, if your girlfriends decide to join, you can easily make your way down to South Beach! On August 18th from 6-10 p.m., there will be an Art, Beats and Eats event along Atlantic Avenue – their main “strip”. Plus, it’s only $20. Here are some more details from the website:

This event will be a showcase of contemporary arts, international music, and spirit tasting found around the world.

Arts:  There will be 20 hand selected artists displaying their piece of art along Atlantic Avenue.  All attendees are encouraged to vote on their favorite piece of art work and a “Peoples Choose Award” will be announced in the final hour.

Beats: Each block will be transformed into one of the three regions: America, Latin America, and  Europe.  At each block, there will be two bands representing their part of the world.

Eats: Spirit Tasting, Look out for the tasting bars located in the middle of the street at every block (Each bar will provide taste of the drinks for guests who have purchased of SHUZZ Wristband).  Also check for participating restaurants/bars to receive discounts on your meal and drinks.

Since you want this trip to be inexpensive, lounging at the beach and hanging out on Atlantic Avenue will keep costs low. The largest costs you should incur will be your flight and hotel expenses.  Delray Beach is easily accessible from West Palm Beach Airport or the Fort Lauderdale Airport. There are also a number of hotels in the area. If you’re adventurous, check our Airbnb – a place where people rent out rooms (or their home) to travelers. I’d suggest staying near Atlantic Avenue as it’s the city’s hub. It’s a small community, so you should be able to take cabs or walk to most places from there.
